POLL: TestMode interface options

#1

Hi all,
If you’ve used CellProfiler 2.1 or 2.2 in Test Mode, you’re probably familiar with the slider- it shows where you are in the pipeline (aka what steps have finished processing) and lets you jump to a new module.

As we design the UI for CP 3.0, there’s a concern that the slider is clunky and/or confusing, so right now the module you’re on (aka how far you’ve processed up to) is designated with a grey shaded box.

We’re concerned that may be too subtle, so one thing we’ve considered is adding a outline box to make it more obvious how far the processing has gotten.

We could also grey out modules that have previously run, either as background or the main text.

For either option though, we’ll need a way to move easily to a different part of the pipeline; one current thought would be to add the ability to ‘Jump Here’ when you right click (or Ctrl/Cmd+click) on a module.

We want your thoughts though! Which of these do you think would be intuitive to use? Is there a good idea we haven’t thought of yet? Please let us know and we’ll add it to the poll!

  • Return to the slider
  • Grey shading + right click to jump
  • Outline box + right click to jump

There seems to be an overloaded term here, i.e. what module “you’re on”. In CP 2, clicking on a module grays the module name and shows its respective settings. But of course this is different than what module the analysis is stopped on.

One other thought to split up these indicators: Keep the gray background shading for the current module re: settings, but instead of the slider you could gray out the foreground names of the already processed modules.

That’s a great point David- will update to emphasize, and will add your suggestion of greying out ‘finished’ modules.

Apparently can’t edit old polls- boo! New poll then.

  • Return to the slider
  • Grey shading of the last step processed + right click to jump
  • Grey shading (foreground or background) of all steps processed + right click to jump
  • Outline box of the last step processed + right click to jump

Last call for votes! Please take a minute to vote if you haven’t already, getting your feedback is very important to making sure critical issues like this get fixed in time for CP 3.0!
