WHAT WE DO
Poised at the crossroads of biology and computation, Recursion is revolutionizing the pharmaceutical industry’s approach to drug discovery. Our unique platform leverages the most advanced biology, high-throughput automation, and artificial intelligence to rapidly discover treatments for rare diseases, inflammatory diseases, cardiovascular diseases of aging, and more (think immuno-oncology).
Using genetic manipulation, we create disease models in relevant human cell types, then use high throughput imaging coupled with automated image analysis to identify compounds that reverse cellular disease phenotypes. This approach creates incredibly rich data sets and is agnostic to preconceived notions of what the cellular disease phenotype should be. Once we have identified candidate treatments for a particular disorder, we develop a literature-based understanding of the disease, then use wet-lab approaches to determine if our treatments rescue known disease phenotypes. Microscopy is pivotal across our discovery process, therefore you will contribute cross functionally to drive our programs forward.
HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE
The high-level job description has only one item: do whatever is necessary to achieve our mission of decoding biology to radically improve lives. If you are a microscopist/cell biologist who is motivated to have the largest impact on drug discovery in the shortest amount of time, you’ve just stumbled upon your next adventure! Your work as part of multiple research and operational teams—using advanced microscopy techniques—will significantly increase the speed and quality of our drug discovery platform and will help us achieve our mission of discovering 100 rare disease treatments by 2025.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on working across teams and is operationally minded. On any given day, you’ll ensure proper operation of our suite of more than $1M worth of high-content microscopes and assist biologist and technicians in establishing and optimizing imaging assays.
For this role, we are looking for microscopists who are:
- In this role, you will engage cross functionally with team members in High Throughput Screening, Biology, Data Science and Software Engineering.
- You will have the opportunity to create innovative novel, microscopy approaches to address biological questions.
- You will ensure proper function of our inventory of microscopes and quickly troubleshoot when issues arise.
- Your work will contribute to large scale microscopy-based screens, where timely execution, versioning and SOPs are critical. You will be fully engaged in the process and will need to think on a large scale.
